Long term trend in house prices in Melbourne, East or West?

What are everyone's thoughts of purchasing properties on the West as oppose to the East? There's a significant price difference between the 2 sides. Is it worth paying more than double to get a house on the East?

Well that's a bit of a general question. You could buy in Bayswater, which I'm sure is cheaper than West Melbourne.
