How Would I Find Chinese Investors Groups/Companies?

Hi
Just a general query, how would I go about locating groups of Chinese investors or groups interested in investing or purchasing land in Australia?
Anyone have any ideas, contacts, agents etc?

Thanks
Matt

Good News

There is also a Chinese site where you list what your business is and Chinese businesses who are interested in your product, service or engaging you as a distributor will contact you

Bad News

I don’t know what it is and will have to chase it up for you with people currently doing business in China

Maybe GR can help?

Thanks Redwing.. not looking to market a business, but a specific property to their investment groups. Thanks for the links..

Advertise in the Chinese media. Or better yet, find the niche markets you want to target in China and approach them through their own journals/trade magazines etc. Also, advertsise in Chinese - not in English.

Remember, most business in China (or Chinese communities in general) is done by guanxi - that is, if they don't know you or know someone that has done business with you, then it will be very hard for you to do business with them. It's all about networks.

Be prepared for a lot of introductions, a lot of socialising, a lot of dinners, gift exchanges etc. Then they may decide to do business with you. Remember, you are a stranger to them (if they don't already know you), and they will want to get to know you before they do any business with you.

Find someone you can trust that knows the language and culture and use them as an advisor. I would offer my services but i am too busy to be diverted onto any other project at the moment.

Don't get drunk on the endless news stories about rich chinese and the ever flowing chinese business opportunities. Many foreigners and businesses that try and do business either in China or with the Chinese end up loosing out. Mainly because of cultural reasons and relying too much on western business practices and not thinking of the chinese business practices.

I've spent a few years in Taiwan (and have also lived on the Mainland and in HK on separate occasions). In fact, i still have a 3 bedroom apartment in Taipei which is used as my Taipei home as i go back there about 3 times a year for family reasons.

It isn't easy doing business with the Chinese and it isn't easy trying to kickstart a new idea or a new venture with them - especially if they don't already know you. But if you are patient and you persevere, then it can be very rewarding. Having chinese as close freinds and/or family can be much more rewarding then having just westerners in your network.

Good luck

Selecting Partners

This is very true. If you are not considered “family”, then you are out side the circle & it takes a long time to build trust. It is worth it if you are in for the long hall.

The short cut is to find a “reputable” partner that is “family”. Partner selection also takes time, effort & a lot of due diligence.

Incidentally Austrade can be excellent when considering international business.
