I have booked airfares from Adelaide to Cairns, Cairns to Gold Coast and Gold Coast to Adelaide in late October. Got some good prices and the dates are outside of school holidays, so the queues at the theme parks in GG will be short etc. Doing really well or so I thought. We arrive in GG on the morning of 24th October - which is the day of the Indy race! DOH! Trying to find accomodation for the night of the 24th October is now very difficult. The 25th onwards is fine, it's just the 24th that's a problem. What I may have to do is stay on the GG for the 25th onwards and find somewhere further out for the 24th.
I don't know the area very well at all, so are they any GG locals who could point me in the right direction i.e. hotels/motels to stay for the night where we can catch a bus to the GG (we may go and see the race - well, we're there and it's on!)?
