Council Amalgamations in Queensland

The Local Government Reform Commission report on proposed council amalgamations and boundary changes was handed to the Queensland Government yesterday, with recommendations due to be released by the government today.

Has anyone heard what the recommendations were and which LGA areas are to be amalgamated???

Cheers

The areas (or at least some of them) were reported on ABC radio, so if you go to their website you will probably find them.

Hi LynnH,

Came across this QLD gov site that outlines recommendations and shows maps for LGA amalgamations and boundary changes. You can select any council in QLD and search what their proposed changes are likely to be.

Some of the proposed amalgamations are sure to very unpopular eg. 3 Sunshine Coast Councils to be merged.

Good day for Townsville. Thuringowa is to be amalgamated. Two mayors and twenty councelors become one and twelve and the best bit is that Ian Hamilton's NQ Water Board is to be disbanded. This bunch of incompetents only existed because it was supplying two Local Govs. No more Mine is bigger than your's. :D

And Mission Beach is happy. :)

Good in some ways, not so good in others.

The undivided council recommendation for the next term is questionable. We will possibly see the Councillor's lose community focus.

The cost savings won't be seen for many yrs with the 3 yrs guaranteed employment for most but the CEOs and the costs involved in bringing the existing Councils together - the $25m the State has put aside won't go far!

Thanks, Marty! :) Good in many ways - but bad in that we don't get some new talent in the Council. :(

Thanks to everyone for the website info - much appreciated.

Saw on the news last night that Bob Abbot from Noosa is a very unhappy gent - can't say I blame him.

Cheers

effect to development

The plan is to merge caboolture with Pine River. I am hoping this will open up some development in Pine Rivers, Caboolture council is fairly liberal with duplex sites wheras it is very difficult to get one iin PR.
