An axe accountant or maybe a Tax account?

There are several tax accountants on these forums - although none from WA I think. Is there a reason they need to be located in Perth?

lol sometimes ive felt like i have been hit to the head with an axe :/ spliting headaches from the building process... and i more like a trailer of receipts :/

Hi there Ben,

I was asking the same question about 18 months ago.

Top of the reccomendations was Chan & Naylor in East Perth (ph: 9436 1200), who specialise in investing/property tax. Speak to principal Lilian Fisher, she is a bit of a property tax guru (or so it seemed to me).

I use them now and am really happy with the property tax advice I have recieved. Prices aren't cheap but you get what you opay for. I also got my PAYG tax done with them, which I have to say I wasn't overwhelmingly happy with (not 'bad' by any means, but they didnt seem to 'discover' any deductions I could be making apart from the obvious ones I already knew about).

Whilst I cant give any insight into them, some other tax accountants in Perth that were recommended to me whilst I was doing my research were:

Carley Broadway - Concero Consulting (ph 08 6555 3999)

Aideen Clancy - Canachas Buisiness Services (ph 6143 0561 / 0416564838)

Barry Levin - Charter Financial Solutions (92265123 / 0417941123)

Best thing to do is call a few ppl and see who you feel comfortable with for what you're after. I have also been told to 'sit down with them and interview them before you sign up' but i've never met an accountant who was willing to do that for free!

Hope that helps mate.

thanks for the reply tpu was really helpful thankyou... lol i agree none of them do it for free ive also heard chan and naylor are really good guess ill tell you soon.

cheers
ben

We've been using James Gatherum-Goss for many years. He is the founder of House of Wealth.

He knows his tax & asset protection stuff like no other and is a top bloke to boot. So much so Im in Perth and he is in Melbourne.

With today's technological world there is no need to sit face to face with your advisors. With Skype, emails etc the internet bring the best advisors into your home office/study instead.

ive also heard angela from integra accounting (rockingham) is a full bottle on all of your accounting needs... she has been put through all of dymphna boholts courses so she is up to date with this (not sure if this is helpful :/) and also has a property portfolio of her own... once you have signed a trust with one accountant and then decide to change because your not happy what is involved ?

Changing accountants isnt as horrific as you might think. The new accountant will need

1. Copies of the last lodged financials for the trust
2. Copies of the last lodged tax returns for the trust
3. Copy of the trust deed
4. Unit or special income unit certificates if applicable
5. Completed year end checklist

thats it really

cheers guys sorry I havent got back to you sooner my wife and myself have just had our first little man so my attention has been other places... mind you I did go to integra accounting to get tax done, were originally going to c&n but plans changed. I can now say I should have waited and booked in again with c&n

You have changed from Warren black then?
I am looking to see a good accountant/tax advisor next week hopefully,
with a view to setting up a trust and/or company for share trading more so than property and also with the option of SMSF.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

'Evening All,

I've been with Angela of Integra Tax (Rockingham) since first meeting her in Karratha in 1996.

I can recommend her services; she handles all my IPs, Family Trust & Co and now SMSF matters.

As she is dual certified, she is able to provide accounting & fin planning services through her expanded business.

A point to note though is - if you don't ask questions or stoke the fires with your own research & initiative, you may feel you are not getting a dynamic wealth creation service etc. What I've found works well is to take the lead and go in with all manner of questions and concepts and Angela will explore all options with you.

If you just go in with a box of receipts and no idea of what you are doing or are looking for, then you'll get a bland tax return?.you will have to show some creativity and drive and she'll respond accordingly.

Cheers,

Ian.

We use Warren for his lawyer services, not his accountancy services.

I take it you're in Perth? If so & you are after a very good local guy who specialises in what you are looking to do then Warren is your man.

Sent Wealth Safe and email (Warrens company in Perth) yesterday and received a response today saying to see Warren he will

"charge $550 which covers a 1 hour consultation, plus a follow up email, and you can bounce any questions in respect to his follow up email, all included in the price. We can assure you that you will get fantastic results."

How does this compare to other accountants considering from what I have researched he is well clued up on all tax matters,SMSF matters, Trusts, Overseas investments and anything else really?

I don't own property as of yet this would be for shares more so with maybe a view to property in the future.
