    Wage disparity

Property girl is spot on. I linked an article earlier in this thread that have examples of industries where men are paid more than women. Was the graph too complicated?

    Wage disparity

This article has some stats on wage inequality amongst graduates. It gives a few examples of where male and female grads earn the same, a few where women earn more but on the whole there are more examples of where male grads start off on higher salaries...

    Energy provider Red Energy

You're right to be skeptical about the price comparison websites. They all negotiate different commissions with energy companies. I think Red (Snowy Hydro) and Momentum (Tassie Hydro) would be the 'greenest'.

Latest from the ABC on Negative Gearing

There's an article in today's age that highlights exactly the point that property girl is making. "The Abbott government was warned that the Australian Tax Office was ill-equipped to tackle a potential multibillion-dollar international tax dodge as it prepared to cut 3000 ATO staff. At a time...

I think that's got to be part of it. There was lots written about this after the July 7 bombings in London. Those guys were born and bred in the UK, loved cricket etc... I think they were radicalised at their mosque.

Nope. Have you? If so, what did you get from it? I'm not sure reading religious texts is that useful when the interpretation of these texts is so varied. Don't people just pick, choose and ignore anyway? I would be interested to read a translation of the bits that relate to the prophet...

Huh? Wouldn't it have been a bit odd if I'd gone off on an Arab/Israeli illegal settlement tangent? Or maybe you are confusing me with someone else? Happy to read a thread you start on the topic. Sounds like you are also confused about economic migrants and asylum seekers. Completely...

I mentioned the white Australia policy because CU@ going on about 'speak English or go home' reminded me of the language requirement for the WA policy. I mentioned the Human rights convention because that's where the right to seek asylum comes from and CU@ didn't seem supportive of this...

Why all the personal digs to Sanj... Am I getting you confused, or have you asked whether he's disagreeing with you because he's short, Asian, Muslim and now male? And I'd guess he doesn't have the time or inclination to get into it with every bigot on somersoft. It must feel overwhelming at...

Part of the reason your post reads like a pile of tosh is that it came after a particularly eloquent and educated post by Francisco. But the bigger reason is that it's full of racist nonsense that you just made up. By the way, they were protesting (in English) outside the train station on...

    What's your "Jonesey"?

I know a guy who works in a bike shop and recently custom made a $10k (i think) bike for an australian living in the middle east who wanted to take up bike riding. The owner of the bike then flew here to pick it up. The bike maker said its a better bike than even the professionals have.

    What's your "Jonesey"?

Ours would probably be our current house. We had a lot of equity in our first home but we sold and doubled our mortgage to buy our forever home in an expensive suburb. We could have had a smaller mortgage a few kms further out and would have been paying it off quicker. My partner also spends...

I had no idea (about the parliament and health system). Oh well then, looks realistic.

    The Yes Vote for Scotland..

Im a bit biased as ive only ever really heard the english side of things. I hope if they do get independence and the oil they set up a sovereign wealth fund like norway rather than lining the pockets of foreign owned companies like the UK and Australia have done (I think Australia missed a one...

    The Yes Vote for Scotland..

Have you got that the wrong way round? It would be like WA if they got free university tuition (but students from other states had to pay to study in WA) free prescriptions (but everyone else is paying) and free care for the elderly (yep, the other states all pay). I think the O&G revenue isnt a...

    The Yes Vote for Scotland..

I think the problem is, people don't have enough information to make an informed decision. I dont think they even known whats happening with their currency. Who knows if they will join the EU. Maybe it will be a headache to cut them loose so they might get membership rushed through. How will...

OECD report says australian private schools offer no accademic advantage

To be honest, i dont know. im not sure if that would be the best idea for us, but its something we've discussed. Im probably more keen than my partner. I mentioned it initially because this is a property forum so i thought others might have considered it. But you are right we would have to...
