Living in the property vs. rent out as IP while renting myself

I myself am a renter-investor.

It's a phrase I sort of coined to describe myself when others ask.

Renting whilst growing a property portfolio can work really well to help you achieve your goals. This is especially true if your rental situation is a cost-effective one (such as flat/house sharing, or living with family members, or other arrangements where you split the costs of living).

For most, it is a temporary existence or a stepping stone to becoming PPOR-based and also holding investment properties.

Truth be told, I've just exchanged contracts on a PPOR but I've been a renter-investor for the past 2.5 years. I enjoyed the experience because I was quite transient and moved around a lot during this time.

If the sums stack up in your favour, I say go for it!
