Plaster Drying Times

Hello,

Anyone had an issue with plaster drying times in Perth area lately? Float and set type plaster on the internal walls. Its been three months and apparently still wet? This is on a new house.

Three months is ridiculous. 7-10 days is pretty much the norm but with other trades following behind (like ceilngs, skirtings/jambs etc) you usually have several weeks giving the walls plenty of time to dry out.

Has the builder tested it with a moisture meter? It should lighten as it dries but have a few darker patches but not remain 'wet' for months.

A few options - ventilation or ventilation and heating.

Has Perth been particularly wet or humid?

To what extent do you mean still wet?

In WA it does go on wet instead of other states where they use plasterboard.

Im guessing you mean for the context of painting it? If so, then 6-12 months is normal. If its too damp it'll just absorb all the paint and it won't apply properly. You're best to leave it unpainted until its dry, or do multiple coats of oil based undercoat like i did :p

4 weeks or so is the norm to leave it before sealing walls ready for painting in WA. Realistically it gets left for up to 2-3 months but that isn't due to dampness, just the way it goes with getting lockup and such. Patch and paint walls last so 100% at handover.

Moisture meter should be 2%ish from memory for it to be ideal.

3 months.... that is ridiculous.

Hello,

thanks for your replies. It is in relation to Painting it. Certainly has ventilation now, not sure how much for the last 3 months though. I think Perth has been cold and a least fairly wet.
