Perth FIFO accountant?

Anyone in Perth who can recommend a good fly in fly out worker accountant that has good IP experience too?

Zone Rebates seeing I work offshore/Nth West WA
Travel allowances?
Claiming membership and training courses?
Claiming tools and clothing?

The old H&R block just doesn't cut it anymore......

Cheers

Wirra,

From my experience the majority of FIFO accountants are poor and overcharge as they try and justify it with their "Knowledge"

You don't need a specialist accountant, your zone rebates, Clothing, Memberships etc are very easy and don't require an expert, you can either claim for them or you can't. I did all my own this year and managed a very nice rebate of 5k all completely above board.

I would recommend you source an excellent IP accountant and then make sure they list and claim for your standard FIFO stuff, as the IP side is much more complicated.

Yep I'm a FIFO and my accountant is in Vic also.

Also unless you are working on Barrow Island you don't qualify for the zone rebate as far as I've been told by my accountant.

A lot of guys claim it as they say their accountant says its ok. But it's your signature on the return and the ATO won't go after them if you are audited. More than happy to be corrected on this though.

I thought it was amount of days above the 26th parallel Regrow, though maybe I'm showing some age on that one?

There is more than one zone allowance depending on distance. The amount depends on being in that zone for over a certain amount of days. Can be over more than one financial year too. So you should be able to claim it.

Cheers

yeah you are right, its over 183 days in a 365 day period.

however im an offshore FIFO worker, I could ******** and say that I work in the exmouth (learmonth) area, cause obviously I am on an oil rig only 50kms from the land, but I would fall short when the ATO asks me to show proof that i was in the exmouth land region haha.

really no point

Correct Regrow.

I work on Barrow and qualify for the zone rebate.

I recently read a blurb about some of the resource companies offering salary sacrificing for flights

I can verify that at least one miner does :)

Some even reimburse fares back to your home....

Some colleagues live in Bali/Thailand and fly in to work on the company tab.

Wirra GR8 fifo tax consultants specialise in FIFO workers and also Property Investment. You can check out the website at www.gr8fifoconsultants.com.au

Advice is free and you only get charged a fee for lodging a tax return. In my experience more often than not FIFO's are claiming many things they shouldn't rather than missing claims and the key is to make sure you dont fall into this catagory. ATO penalties and fines are far more difficult to justify than a small cost for good advice.

ScottyB did get it right with his suggestions on what is claimable but depending on your specific personal circumstances and structure you may also be entitled to other stuff as well

Make sure your advice and service comes from a registered tax agent
